what we do

YWCA Bristol

Two young women laughingYWCA Bristol is based in Knowle but also provides services in communities, youth centres, schools or projects across the city.

This ‘outreach’ approach makes us extremely flexible; it means we meet some of the girls who are the hardest to reach and who most need us.

We offer:

  • A one-to-one counselling service which helps young women deal with problems in their lives.
  • Group sessions where young women discuss parenting, healthy eating, diet and exercise, sexuality, safe sex and sexual health, alcohol and drugs.
  • Courses for young mums and mums-to-be to help them prepare for the responsibilities of parenthood.
  • Informal education programmes. In a relaxed atmosphere we help girls and young women learn literacy, numeracy, money management, citizenship and other useful life skills. Many of our education programmes lead to accreditation or qualifications.

We give information and support about education, training, skills and jobs.

We have fun and build confidence using a wide range of activities, including working together on creative projects, dance, filmmaking and arts and crafts.
