what we do

YWCA Plymouth

plymouth young womanYWCA Plymouth is based in the heart of the city but we can work at community centres, youth clubs and schools across Plymouth and the surrounding area.

We plan sessions according to what the young women tell us they need and get everyone to work together to overcome differences and prejudices.

We offer:

  • One-to-one sessions with a project worker where young women can talk about their problems in confidence.
  • Group sessions, which can be arranged whenever they’re needed. Here girls learn about healthy living, sexual health, alcohol and drugs, and get support to stop smoking.
  • Accredited education programmes. In an informal and relaxed environment girls learn to understand themselves and develop essential life skills.
  • Courses specifically for young mums and pregnant teenagers. We teach parenting skills and offer support, information and the chance to get their work accredited.
  • Activities such as arts, music, drama and dance; outdoor activities and residential visits.

We have fun and build confidence using creative media, such as film-making and dance. Young women who attend YWCA Plymouth have made films about drink spiking and helped interview local nurses.
