What we do
what we do
YWCA Wolverhampton at Warstones
YWCA Wolverhampton at Warstones is the only youth centre in the area. We encourage girls to take part in workshops, discussions and be creative, have their say and try new things.
We offer:
- Accredited education programmes. In an informal and relaxed environment girls learn useful life skills and gain qualifications.
- Information about education, skills, training and jobs.
- Courses specifically for young mums and pregnant teenagers. We teach parenting skills and offer support, information and the chance to get their work accredited.
- ‘Drop-in’ sessions where young women can talk one-to-one and in confidence with a project worker.
- Group sessions, which can be arranged whenever and wherever they’re needed. Young women discuss parenting, healthy eating, diet and exercise, staying safe and sexual health, alcohol and drugs.
Peer support is important to young women who have lost confidence. By working together on community projects, arts and crafts and residential or outdoor activities new friendships are forged which can restore self-esteem.
Young women who attend YWCA Wolverhampton at Bilston and Warstones were recently involved in commissioning a peer education programme and website offering young people advice about topics such as teen pregnancy and substance abuse.
